Shame, from Austral Weeks, the third album by Duncan Graham (And His Co-Accused), is a two-and-a-half minute powerpop romper stomper. It was written in a flash after Duncan found a pile of records left out on a pavement in a rainstorm. 1979, (also from the album) is a meditation on the Jonestown mass-suicide of November 1978, and what it would have meant to a friend (or lover?) left behind in late 70s San Francisco. Its an epic and heartfelt ballad of desperate longing to pause the incessant tick tock of history ("a nightmare from which I am trying to awake" - James Joyce, Ulysses).
